Description
Great Britain £2 Double Sovereign Coin - BU - Random Date
Double Sovereign Coin
The double sovereign was first minted in 1820 and depicted George III, but this issue never entered circulation, instead being considered a pattern coin. In the following century and a half, it was most often issued to mark the beginning of a new reign, or the institution of a new coinage portrait of the reigning monarch. These were mostly proof coins.
Coin Designs
Obverse: With vary in design based on the reigning British monarch at the time of production.
Reverse: Is the famous design by Benedetto Pistrucci with an image of St. George on horseback and he charges and slays the dragon with his spear.
