Shawnee National Forest
The Shawnee National Forest quarter is the first released in 2016 and the 31st overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. The reverse design depicts a close view of Camel Rock with natural vegetation in the foreground and a red-tailed hawk soaring in the sky overhead. Inscriptions are SHAWNEE, ILLINOIS, 2016 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

Investors can now choose bullion coins that honor some of our Nation's most treasured national parks and sites - majestic places that truly make us "America the Beautiful."

About the Program
In 2010, the United States Mint began to issue 56 quarter-dollar coins featuring designs depicting national parks and other national sites as part of the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Program.

Common Obverse
Each coin in the series features a common obverse (heads side) with the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, which has been restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original model. Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.

Release Schedule
Each year, the public will see five new national site designs depicted on the reverse (tails side) of America the Beautiful Quarters. The United States Mint will issue these quarters in the order in which the honored site was first established as a national site.

Silver Bullion Quarters
The United States Mint will also mint and issue unique silver bullion coins that are exact duplicates of each of the America the Beautiful Quarters. The bullion coins will be made of .999 fine silver, have a diameter of three inches and weigh five ounces. The fineness and weight will be edge-incused on the bullion coins. The United States Mint will issue these coins under the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin Program.

Uncirculated Coins for Collectors
The United States Mint also offers collectible, uncirculated versions of the popular gold and silver American Coins. All Uncirculated Coins carry the same stunning designs found on their Proof counterparts.

The term "uncirculated" refers to the specialized minting process used to create these coins. Although they are similar in appearance to Bullion Coins, these uncirculated coins are distinguished by the presence of a mint mark, indicating their production facility, and by the use of burnished coin blanks, which are hand-fed into specially-adapted coining presses one at a time.
