Britannia Gold Bullion Coins were first minted in 1987 and struck every year since. Britannia has assumed the status of an immortal having been an enduring feature of British coinage for almost 300 years. From 1987 until 2012, the British Gold Britannia featured 22-karat gold with a fineness of .917. From 1987 to 1989, the non-gold component in the 22-karat coins was copper. From 1989 onward, silver was used as the non-gold component. Since 2013, the 1 oz Gold Britannia Coin has featured 24-karat, .9999 pure gold content. The purity may vary depending on the year of issue, but each coin contains 1 oz of fine gold with a face value of 100 Pounds and are minted at The Royal Mint.
