The Australian Gold Nugget series was launched in 1987 by the Perth Mint. At first, these coins pictured on the reverse side a famous Australian gold nugget. In 1990, this design was changed to feature different Kangaroos, a more world-recognized symbol of Australia.

Coin Design
Obverse: Crowned head of Queen Elizabeth with incriptions ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and 50 DOLLARS.
Reverse: Features Hand of Faith with inscriptions THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET, 1/2 OZ., FINE GOLD and date.
