Klondike Gold Rush Series

The Royal Canadian Mint's Klondike Gold Rush Series began in 2021, the 125th Anniversary. The Klondike Gold Rush (1896-1899) heightened interest in Canada's mineral wealth, but miners had grown frustrated with the lack of a domestic market and the exorbitant expense of exporting gold. While gold mining production in the Klondike peaked and then ebbed, renewed calls for a Dominion mint prompted the establishment of the Ottawa branch of the Royal Mint, which officially opened on January 2, 1908.
A necessary addition for transforming doré bars into coinage-quality gold, an on-site refinery was completed in 1911 - in time to become an important part of the Ottawa Mint’s operations during the First World War, when its gold bars helped pay Britain’s war debts. In 1919, it was first recognized by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) as a Good Delivery refinery; to this day, the Royal Canadian Mint has maintained its position on that list of accredited gold refiners.
Work on a new refinery was completed in 1936, and it was in this facility that the recently renamed Royal Canadian Mint began pushing boundaries : in the mid-1960s, it upped the purity of its gold bars from .995 to .9999 fine; in 1982, it was the first in the world to produce .9999 bullion coins; and in 1998, it was the first to achieve the unprecedented level of purity of .99999 fine (99.999% or 'five nines' pure). The Klondike Dore to Refined Gold coin has a very high purity level at .99999 Fine.

Coin Design
The reverse of this coin features the artwork of John Mardon. The reverse is a representation of the gold refining process; it depicts molten gold forming a metal sheet that is then cut into pure gold coin blanks. The coin bears the signature radial lines of all Mint bullion coins, as well as a micro-engraved maple leaf mark showing the number 24 to correspond to its year of issue. Surrounding the reverse design are the inscriptions CANADA, 2024, 99999, FINE GOLD, 1 OZ, OR PUR and the initials JM for the designer.

The obverse design shows the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III. Obverse inscriptions include CHARLES III, D G REX, and 200 DOLLARS.

Sealed Assay Card Packaging
The Royal Canadian Mint introduced a credit card sized packaging option that is both compact and secure. Each Klondike Gold bullion coin is fully sealed in a transparent high-barrier film, providing it with a tamper and puncture-proof safeguard against scratching, marring or wear. The credit card-sized format allows for easy handling and storing. The back of the card includes the official Royal Canadian Mint assay certificate signed by the Chief Assayer, certifying the authenticity and the purity of the bullion coin's content.
