The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and inscriptions that include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 8 DOLLARS, 2012 and 5 OZ 999 SILVER.
The reverse depicts a traditional Chinese dragon, a long scaled, serpentine creature with four legs, and holding a pearl of wisdom with inscriptions YEAR OF THE DRAGON and the Chinese character for "Dragon" with the Perth Mint's traditional "P" mintmark.
