Description
2009 American Gold Buffalo (1 oz) $50
Certified NGC MS70 - Early Releases
American Gold Buffalos are a relatively young coin, first minted by the United States in 2006. Created to compete with international bullion of higher purity, Buffalos are .9999 (24 carat) bullion, as opposed to America’s pre-existing Gold Eagle at 91.67% (22 carat). Fractional varieties were made in 2008, but all other years have stuck to a standard 1 ounce piece with $50 face value. The design is a rendition of the classic U.S. Buffalo Nickel, with Indian head profile on the obverse and American Bison on the reverse.
