This coin was produced by the Department of the Treasury, United States Mint to commemorate the 230th Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps, established in 1775.

The obverse (heads side) design of the 2005 Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollar features the historic flag raising on Iwo Jima.
The reverse (tails) design features the United States Marine Corps Emblem.
