This coin was produced by the Department of the Treasury, United States Mint to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Chief Justice John Marshall in 1755.

The obverse (heads side) design of the 2005 Chief Justice John Marshall Silver Dollar features a profile portrait of Chief Justice John Marshall designed by John Mercanti.
The reverse (tails) design feature an interior view of the Old Supreme Court Chamber located in the U.S. Capitol.
