The United States Mint certifies that this coin is a genuine 1999 Dolley Madison Commemorative BU Silver Dollar, struck in accordance with legislation passed by Congress and signed by the President on October 20, 1996, as Public Law 104-329. This coin was produced by the Department of the Treasury, United States Mint to commemorate the life and achievements of Dolley Madison.

Coin Designs
The obverse (heads side) design of the 1999 Dolley Madison features a portrait of Dolley Madison surrounded by gardenias. Dolley is seen against a background of a domed temple that covers the Madison-era icehouse, which can still be found on the grounds of Madison's Virginia home.
The reverse (tails) design features an elegant view of the portico of Montpelier, accentuated by graceful willows.
