Description
1986-W US Gold $5 Statue of Liberty Commemorative Proofbr>
Certified PCGS PR70 Deep Cameo - PCGS Gradient Blue Label
In 1986 our greatest lady, the Statue of Liberty, will be 100 years old. To celebrate this great event, the United States Mint, by Act of Congress, has produced United States Liberty Coins. These are the first coins ever issued by the United States Government depicting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. This is also the first time since 1929 that the United States has issued a $5 gold coin. These coins are legal tender of the United States.
Coin Designs
The obverse (heads side) design of the 1986 Statue of Liberty Gold $5 portrays the view of the head of the Statue from below, chosen to symbolize the Statue's gaze toward a future of freedom and opportunity.
The reverse (tails) design combines traditional layout and lettering with a contemporary treatment of the customary eagle emblem.
